AUDIO RECORDING MIXING & MASTERING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

Audio Recording - How much does a recording session cost per song?

At Starsound Studios, Studio A is $500.00 a song. The Dolby Atmos Immersive Audio mixing studio is $600 per song.

Audio Mastering - What is LUFS and Why Does It Matter?

LUFS means Loudness Unit Full Scale. It is the measurement of compression and volume over the song's length. Social media platforms like Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, iTunes, and SoundCloud have their standards. It matters because the social media platform will alter your song's sound if it does not comply. So why pay a studio that does not achieve that standard? The reason you stop going to that particular studio is that the platform changes how the music sounds after the upload—the phenomenon of the song playing well at home and badly when listening to it streaming. We hear that story all the time. That is why we do the exact opposite. We meet the exacting LUFS standards of ALL platforms. Or we ensure that the True Peak has enough play in it to withstand the platform altering its sound.

Audio Mastering - Do you make more than 1 master for your clients so that it meets social media LUFS standards?

Yes, we do. We use Process Audio's Meter Decibel to comply with the strict LUFS social media platform standards. Each has its own. We ensure the artist's music uploads to the platform without the platform altering the sound if the LUFS standard is lacking.

Audio Mixing - Do you mix any genre of music?

Yes, we do. Using references helps - so bring them. Also, we use Izotope's Tonal Balance Control to ensure we have complied with specific genres' EQ. Izotope has analyzed hundreds of genre-specific songs, developed how they sound sonically and made an EQ tunnel to use as a guide. So we always check against that.
